Description

UPC Hungary Ltd., operating under MCC 216 and MNC 71, was a significant mobile network operator in Hungary before its acquisition and integration into Vodafone Hungary. As part of Liberty Global, UPC provided a range of telecommunications services, including mobile services alongside its established cable television, internet, and fixed-line offerings. While UPC Hungary is no longer a separately operating mobile network, its history reflects the competitive landscape of the Hungarian telecommunications market. The 216 MCC code signifies Hungary, and the MNC 71 identified UPC's specific slice of the mobile network spectrum within the country. This information is crucial for understanding network configurations and device compatibility.

Before its integration, UPC Hungary competed with established mobile operators like Magyar Telekom (Telekom), Telenor Hungary (now Yettel), and Vodafone Hungary, striving to gain market share through bundled service packages and innovative offerings. Although initially operating as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), leveraging the infrastructure of another established carrier, UPC’s impact on the market was notable, forcing competitors to adapt their strategies and service offerings. The 216-71 combination is now largely historical data related to the allocation of network resources and is mostly relevant for legacy systems or when analyzing the evolution of the Hungarian mobile network landscape. While not currently active, UPC Hungary's entry and eventual transition left a lasting impact on the choices and pricing available to Hungarian mobile users.
