Description

Airwave Solutions Ltd, operating in the United Kingdom (MCC 234), utilises the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 78. Airwave built and operated the UK's dedicated nationwide digital radio service for public safety users. Unlike commercial networks such as Vodafone or EE, Airwave focused solely on providing secure and reliable communications for police, fire, ambulance services, and other governmental organisations. Serving England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, this mission-critical network prioritised coverage and resilience over consumer-centric offerings like entertainment or high-speed data for smartphone use.

The specific MCC and MNC combination (234-78) identifies Airwave uniquely within the UK regulatory landscape for mobile communications. While other networks battled for consumer market share with innovative data plans and handset deals, Airwave concentrated on voice and limited data services optimised for emergency response and coordination, a core difference influencing its technology choices and service profile. The network played a vital role in many major incidents throughout the UK, demonstrating reliability nationwide. Airwave Solution's services were eventually superseded by the Emergency Services Network.
