Description

Jernbaneverket AS (MCC 242, MNC 21) is a dedicated mobile network operating within Norway, managed under the umbrella of the Norwegian Railway Directorate (formerly Jernbaneverket - hence the name). This network infrastructure plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless and reliable communication for critical railway operations throughout the country, covering vast stretches of track and often remote locations. Unlike consumer-focused mobile networks such as Telenor (MCC 242, MNC 01) or Telia (MCC 242, MNC 04), Jernbaneverket AS focuses specifically on the communication needs of train operations, signalling, and essential staff, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of Norway's railway system.

Because of its very specialised use cases unlike more general purpose mobile networks in Norway, Jernbaneverket AS is optimised towards reliability and availability in what can be quite difficult areas to ensure excellent mobile coverage. While the public networks compete on speeds and features, this network emphasises secure and constant connectivity for services that are very time-sensitive and crucial to safety. This dedicated approach allows for tailored infrastructure and operational protocols that directly address the specific demands of railway communication, showcasing a unique application of mobile network technology within Europe's transportation sector.
