Description

Tampnet AS, operating in Norway, is a mobile network with a unique focus within the European telecommunications landscape. Identified by the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 242, which designates Norway, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 99, Tampnet distinguishes itself from more commonly known Norwegian networks like Telenor (MNC 01) and Telia (MNC 04). While Telenor and Telia provide widespread cellular coverage leveraging traditional cellular technologies such as 4G LTE and increasingly 5G, Tampnet historically held a niche by specializing in offshore communication solutions, primarily serving the oil and gas industry throughout the North Sea.

This specialized focus has allowed Tampnet to build a robust and reliable network infrastructure tailored for demanding offshore environments. Utilising a combination of technologies they've provided essential communication services to platforms and vessels. While their primary service area remained offshore for a significant period, Tampnet has begun to expand its reach in later years, to certain onshore locations within Norway and adjacent countries, by offering niche services that complement its experience gained via decades of offshore industrial activity.
