Description

The Icelandic Coast Guard (Landhelgisgæslan) operates a dedicated mobile network in Iceland, identified by the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 274 and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 22. This specialized network is crucial for maritime safety, search and rescue operations, and general coastal surveillance within Iceland's extensive territorial waters. Unlike commercial mobile networks like Síminn or Nova, the Landhelgisgæslan's network is primarily designed for official use, ensuring reliable communication for coast guard vessels, aircraft, and personnel even in remote areas and challenging weather conditions common in the North Atlantic.

The network likely utilizes specialized radio frequencies and technologies optimized for long-range communication and resilience, given the critical nature of its operations. While specific details regarding network infrastructure and technology are generally kept confidential due to security considerations, the existence of a dedicated mobile network for Landhelgisgæslan highlights the importance Iceland places on safeguarding its maritime borders and ensuring effective emergency response capabilities. Its operation underscores a national commitment to leveraging technology to bolster safety and security in a geographically demanding environment.
