Description

Freedom Mobile, operating in Canada, is a mobile network operator under the umbrella of Shaw Communications (owned by Rogers Communications since 2023). As a key player in the North American & Caribbean telecommunications landscape, Freedom Mobile distinguishes itself through its focus on urban areas within Canada and a value-oriented approach. Identifying Freedom Mobile within network configurations relies on its unique Mobile Country Code (MCC) and Mobile Network Code (MNC). For Freedom Mobile, the MCC is 302, identifying it as a Canadian network. The MNC is 490, further pinpointing it within the Canadian mobile ecosystem. These codes are essential for devices to correctly identify and connect to the Freedom Mobile network.

Compared to larger national carriers like Rogers, Bell, and Telus, Freedom Mobile (formerly Wind Mobile) initially carved a niche by offering competitive pricing plans, particularly in major urban centers such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. While historically having a smaller coverage footprint than its national competitors, Freedom Mobile has strategically invested in expanding its network coverage and upgrading its infrastructure, including leveraging 5G technology. The acquisition by Rogers Communications could potentially further impact Freedom Mobile's future direction, network integration, and competitive positioning within the Canadian mobile market, potentially creating new opportunities for customers, or impacting the competition.
