Description

LightSquared, operating in Canada (North America & Caribbean), was a proposed mobile broadband network that gained significant attention and ultimately faced challenges. Identified by its Mobile Country Code (MCC) 302, which designates Canada, and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 570, LightSquared aimed to deliver 4G LTE services. While it never commercially launched in Canada or the US, its proposed business model involved offering wholesale network access to other service providers, potentially fostering competition within the Canadian telecommunications landscape, traditionally dominated by larger players like Bell, Rogers, and Telus.

The history of LightSquared within Canada is intertwined with regulatory hurdles and concerns surrounding potential interference with GPS signals. Although the company had aspirations to deploy a nationwide network, these technical difficulties and subsequent regulatory pushback ultimately prevented LightSquared from becoming a functioning mobile network operator (MNO) in Canada, leaving its assigned MCC and MNC largely unused in a commercial sense. The spectrum originally allocated to LightSquared is now subject to different regulatory uses.
