Description

Public Service Cellular, Inc., operating formerly under the Alltel brand in the United States (North America & Caribbean), represents a significant chapter in the evolution of mobile telecommunications within the region. Identified by its Mobile Country Code (MCC) of 310 and Mobile Network Code (MNC) of 500, Public Service Cellular/Alltel played a crucial role in providing cellular services to a broad customer base, particularly in areas where larger national carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile didn't have as strong of a foothold. This focus on underserved markets distinguished Alltel and subsequently Public Service Cellular, contributing to increased mobile accessibility across the country.

Alltel's initial success was bolstered by a regional strategy, acquiring smaller cellular operators and tailoring services to local needs, before being acquired and its assets dispersed. The company’s legacy is intertwined with the development of CDMA technology in the US, and the subsequent migration to LTE. Examining Public Service Cellular, within the context of its MCC (310) and MNC (500), provides valuable insight into the fragmented yet competitive landscape of the US mobile market. It highlights how niche players can emerge, cater to specific geographic locations and customer segments, and ultimately shape the overall mobile experience for millions.
