Description

Uninor, formerly a significant player in the Indian mobile network landscape, provided services in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under the operational control of Telenor India Communications Private Limited. Utilizing Mobile Country Code (MCC) 405, which identifies India, and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 819, Uninor aimed to deliver affordable and accessible mobile communication solutions to its customers, trying to compete in a market dominated by larger telecommunication companies like Airtel, Vodafone Idea (now Vi), and Reliance Jio. Although Uninor eventually ceased operations and later merged with Bharti Airtel, its presence left an impact on the competition and pricing strategies within the region.

Focusing on value-for-money offerings, Uninor successfully garnered a substantial subscriber base particularly in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions. Their "Sabse Sasta" (cheapest) call rates and simplified tariff plans appealed to a wide segment of the population, including those in rural areas. While operational, the network invested in setting up cell towers and optimising network coverage to serve its customers effectively, even in the face of fierce competition from well-established operators with pre-existing infrastructure and broader 4G coverage – a technology which Uninor initially lacked. The legacy of MCC 405 MNC 819 now represents a chapter in the evolution of India’s dynamic telecommunications industry and the challenges faced by new entrants in such a competitive market.
