Description

Uninor, operating in West Bengal, India, was a GSM mobile network providing services in the Asia & Middle East region. Identified by its Mobile Country Code (MCC) 405, signifying India, and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 880, Uninor aimed to offer affordable mobile communication solutions to the West Bengal market. This network, though not currently operational under the Uninor brand, played a role in the competitive Indian telecom landscape during its active period. At the time, the Indian mobile market was a battleground of low-cost operators, with Uninor attempting to differentiate itself through innovative pricing and service packages designed to appeal to price-sensitive consumers.

While its operational lifespan was limited, Uninor's presence contributed to the overall growth of mobile penetration in West Bengal and India. Its focus on affordability helped expand access to mobile communication for a wider segment of the population. Notably, other major players like Airtel, Vodafone Idea (formerly Idea Cellular), and Jio (Reliance Jio) also compete or competed in the same market, each deploying their own strategies to capture market share. The introduction of 4G and subsequent 5G technologies by these competitors ultimately increased the landscape and network needs, altering the services required of Uninor to compete. Even with the introduction of new technology, the network's impact and presence is still notable based on the MCC 405 and MNC 880.
