Gujarat Uninor, operating in India's Gujarat region, was a GSM-based mobile network identified by the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 405, signifying India, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 927. Uninor, a joint venture between Telenor of Norway and Unitech Group of India, aimed to bring affordable mobile services to the Indian market, competing with established players like Airtel, Vodafone Idea (formerly Idea Cellular and Vodafone India), and Reliance Jio. Uninor focused on providing basic voice and SMS services at competitive prices, particularly targeting rural and semi-urban areas of Gujarat and other Indian circles. Despite its ambitious plans and initial success in subscriber acquisition, Uninor faced significant challenges, including regulatory issues and the cancellation of its licenses in 2012 following the 2G spectrum allocation scam. This ultimately led to Telenor acquiring Uninor's assets and relaunching operations under the Telenor India brand. Although no longer operating under the Gujarat Uninor name, the network's legacy can be traced through the infrastructure and customer base that transitioned to Telenor India and subsequently, to Bharti Airtel after Airtel acquired Telenor India’s operations across the country. The 405-927 MCC-MNC combination is therefore of historical significance for understanding India's mobile telecommunications landscape.
