Description

Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Ltd, operating under the brand "3," held a significant position in the Australian mobile landscape for a number of years. As a joint venture between Vodafone and Hutchison Telecommunications, "3" offered a range of mobile services leveraging its network infrastructure. In the context of global mobile network identification, "3" in Australia was identified by the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 505, which designates Australia, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 06. This unique identifier distinguished "3" from other mobile networks operating within Australia, such as Telstra (MNC 01) and Optus (MNC 02).

While no longer existing as an independent brand, "3's" legacy is woven into the fabric of Australian telecommunications history. The joint venture ultimately led to the merger of Vodafone Australia and 3, forming Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA), which continues to operate under the Vodafone brand. Prior to the merger, “3” was known for its innovative offerings and competitive pricing, targeting a younger demographic with its emphasis on data services and multimedia content. The network invested heavily in its 3G infrastructure, aiming to provide Australians with fast and reliable mobile internet access, particularly in metropolitan areas and major regional centers across Oceania. The merger allowed for greater network coverage and a wider range of services under the Vodafone banner, solidifying Vodafone's place as a major player in the competitive Australian mobile market.
