Description

BHP Billiton Mobile, operating in Australia (Oceania), utilizes the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 505 and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 31. This unique combination identifies the network specifically within the Australian telecommunications landscape. Australia, a country known for its vast distances and diverse terrains, requires robust mobile network infrastructure. BHP Billiton's presence in this sector likely caters to specific industrial or operational communication needs, especially considering BHP's significant mining operations spread across various regions of the country. While the major players like Telstra (MCC 505, MNC 01), Optus (MCC 505, MNC 02), and Vodafone (MCC 505, MNC 03) provide broad public coverage, specialized networks like BHP Billiton's often focus on providing dedicated, reliable communication services for their employees and operations, particularly in remote areas where general mobile coverage may be limited.

Given BHP Billiton's scale and operational requirements, their mobile network could potentially employ a combination of technologies, from standard GSM, UMTS, or LTE, to more specialized solutions like satellite communication in areas with little to no terrestrial infrastructure. It's reasonable to assume that the network prioritizes secure and reliable communication for critical operations. Their network might differ significantly in user base and coverage area compared to publicly available networks like Telstra or Optus, which target general public use. Information regarding the specifics of BHP Billiton Mobile's network infrastructure and services can often be found in regulatory filings with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) or in corporate communications related to BHP Billiton's operational technologies.
