Description

CITIC Pacific Mining operates a private mobile network in Australia, primarily serving its iron ore mining operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Oceania. Utilizing the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 505, which identifies Australia, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 40, this network is specifically tailored for critical communications and data transmission within their expansive mining sites. Unlike public mobile networks such as Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone, which cover the entire country, CITIC Pacific Mining’s network provides focused coverage optimised for the needs of their machinery, autonomous vehicles, and workforce within a defined geographical area.

The deployment of a private network allows CITIC Pacific Mining to ensure reliable and secure communications independent of the public carrier infrastructure, which can be vital in remote locations like the Pilbara. The network facilitates real-time data collection from mining equipment, enables efficient dispatch and coordination of resources, and supports autonomous drilling and haulage operations. Whilst details on the specific technologies employed (e.g., LTE, 5G) are generally proprietary, the MCC and MNC designation firmly places CITIC Pacific Mining's private network within the Australian telecommunications landscape alongside the major providers, though with a distinctly different purpose and scope.
