Description

The National Broadband Network Co. (NBN) is a government-owned corporation in Australia, responsible for rolling out the national broadband network. It operates with Mobile Country Code (MCC) 505, identifying it as an Australian network, and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 62. A key infrastructure project, the NBN aims to provide high-speed internet access to all Australians, addressing disparities in connectivity across the vast continent of Oceania. While not a traditional mobile network in the same vein as Telstra or Optus, the NBN infrastructure underpins many mobile services and internet access for many Australians, ensuring widespread availability of high-speed data for both urban and rural communities

Funded via significant government investment and private partnerships, the NBN employs a mix of technologies – fiber optic, fixed wireless, and satellite – to reach diverse geographic locations. The approach is designed to overcome challenges posed by Australia's unique landscape, from densely populated metropolitan areas to remote outback regions. This multifaceted approach helps ensure all Australians get access to internet, which is something the NBN does very well. The NBN operates under regulations set by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and plays a critical role in Australia’s digital economy.
