Description

Telkom SA Ltd, operating in South Africa, is a major player in the nation's mobile telecommunications landscape. As one of the key networks in Africa's southernmost country, Telkom leverages the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 655, unique to South Africa, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 05 to identify its network to mobile devices. This combination (655 05) ensures that phones and other devices can seamlessly connect to its services when roaming within the country. Telkom provides a range of services, from basic voice and text to advanced 4G LTE and fiber optic internet, competing directly with established giants like Vodacom and MTN for market share within South Africa's growing mobile data market. They may also be rolling out 5G as the bandwidth becomes more easily accessible, however information about this is speculative.

While Vodacom and MTN hold considerable sway, Telkom SA has been steadily building its infrastructure, with particular expansion of their fibre network. While they do so, they will need to be careful to manage roaming, as this could affect overall usability of the 655 05 MCC and MNC services provided across the South African region. Telkom has made strides in offering competitively priced data bundles and focusing on customer service, aiming to attract both individual and business clients. As South Africa continues to develop its digital economy, Telkom SA Ltd plays a significant role in bridging the digital divide and enabling connectivity for a wider range of South Africans.
