Wireless Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd, operating under the iBurst brand, was a South African mobile network provider offering wireless broadband internet access. Functioning with the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 655, identifying it as a South African network, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 73, iBurst aimed to provide connectivity solutions in a market dominated by larger players like Vodacom and MTN. iBurst used a proprietary technology that differed from the common GSM or CDMA standards used by its competitors. While operational, iBurst targeted both residential and business users, seeking to offer faster speeds and broader coverage than traditional dial-up connections or, in some areas, even early mobile broadband services. The use of the MCC 655 and MNC 73 designated iBurst as a distinct entity within South Africa's telecommunications landscape. However, the network eventually faced challenges, particularly with the rise of more advanced mobile technologies such as 3G and later 4G/LTE, leading to a decline in its market share before eventually ceasing operations. South Africa, with it’s developing mobile infrastructure, saw many companies and technologies battle to be the best.
