Description

Eritrea Telecommunications Services Corporation (Eritel), operating in Eritrea, is the sole provider of telecommunications services within the country. As a state-owned entity, Eritel holds a significant position in connecting Eritreans across the nation and to the rest of the world. Eritel's network is identified internationally by its Mobile Country Code (MCC) of 657 and Mobile Network Code (MNC) of 01. These codes are crucial for mobile devices connecting to the network and roaming agreements with other international carriers. In a country with limited competition, Eritel plays a vital role in providing mobile connectivity.

Eritel's network infrastructure utilizes GSM technology, offering basic voice call and SMS services to subscribers. While internet access is available, it is important to note that penetration rates in Eritrea remain relatively low when compared to other African nations. This may be partly due to government control and infrastructure limitations. The cost of mobile services and devices may also play a role in access. Eritel faces the challenge of expanding its network infrastructure to enhance coverage and improve data speeds, potentially introducing 3G and 4G technologies in the future.
