Description

Administración Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Antel) is the primary state-owned telecommunications company in Uruguay, providing a comprehensive suite of mobile, fixed-line, internet, and television services across the nation. As the largest telecommunications provider in the country, Antel plays a crucial role in Uruguay's connectivity landscape, competing with other mobile operators. Within the framework of mobile network identification, Antel is assigned the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 748, which uniquely identifies Uruguay, and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 01, differentiating it from other networks operating within the country. This MCC/MNC combination (748 01) is essential for mobile devices to correctly identify and connect to Antel's network.

Antel's history is deeply intertwined with the development of telecommunications infrastructure in Uruguay. It has consistently invested in modernizing its network infrastructure, including the rollout of 4G LTE and more recently 5G technology, to enhance mobile broadband speeds and coverage. Compared to Movistar and Claro, who also operate within Uruguay using different MNC's under the same MCC (748), Antel boasts widespread coverage, particularly in rural areas, thanks to its public service mandate. Furthermore, Antel often offers competitive data packages and bundles targeted towards various consumer segments, furthering its position as a key player in the Uruguayan telecommunications market.
