Description

Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Ltd, operating under the "3" brand in Australia, represents a significant player in Oceania's mobile telecommunications landscape. Identified by the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 505 – unique to Australia – and the Mobile Network Code (MNC) 12, "3" carved a niche for itself within a competitive market dominated by Telstra and Optus. It was a joint venture that aimed to leverage the strengths of both Vodafone and Hutchison Telecommunications, offering a blend of services and coverage to Australian consumers.

The "3" network, while eventually merging with Vodafone Australia, initially pushed boundaries with its focus on 3G technology and innovative data plans. Its presence contributed to the overall advancement of mobile services across the continent, influencing the strategies of other carriers. Before its full integration into the Vodafone brand, the "3" network competed directly with other Australian GSM networks. The partnership with Vodafone allowed for increased investment in mobile infrastructure, expanding coverage and capabilities, although the "3" brand is no longer actively used.
