About Aalto-korkeakoulusäätiö sr

Aalto-korkeakoulusäätiö sr operates a unique mobile network in Finland, identified by the Mobile Country Code (MCC) 244 and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 57. Unlike the major national operators such as Elisa, DNA, and Telia Finland, Aalto University's network isn't designed for traditional public mobile services, instead serving a specialized purpose in research, experimentation and innovation within the university environment. This allows Aalto University researchers and students to explore novel mobile technologies, conduct large-scale network experiments, and develop innovative applications outside the constraints of commercial mobile networks, contributing to the technology ecosystem within Finland and Europe. The network’s infrastructure provides a testbed for 5G and beyond, enabling cutting-edge research into network slicing, private networks, and IoT applications. This is in contrast to the wider deployment of 5G operated by larger networks for public use, Aalto's network provides a more controlled and pliable development environment. The Aalto mobile network plays a vital role in fostering technological advancements, training future mobile network engineers, and supporting the Finnish government's ambition to be a leader in telecommunications technology within Europe. The specific technical capabilities of the network, such as supported frequency bands and coverage areas, are often tailored to the needs of specific research projects.
