West Bengal IDEA, identified by Mobile Country Code (MCC) 405 and Mobile Network Code (MNC) 853, was a prominent mobile network operator serving the West Bengal region of India. As part of the broader IDEA Cellular network, a major player in the Indian telecommunications market, it provided GSM services covering a significant portion of the state. IDEA Cellular, like other major operators such as Airtel and Jio (Reliance Communications), catered to a diverse customer base with voice calls, SMS messaging, and mobile data services. The network’s presence was vital in connecting communities across West Bengal, contributing to the region's economic activity and social interaction. In the highly competitive Indian mobile market, IDEA Cellular merged with Vodafone India in 2018 to form Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), signifying a major shift in the telecommunications landscape. While the West Bengal IDEA brand designation with identifying MCC and MNC codes eventually phased out, the infrastructure and subscriber base were integrated into the new entity.
